The Michael Wainwright USA Borealis collection is actually clay with a really cool crystal glaze.
Each piece can be dramatically different from the next and has its own unique pattern. Borealis was initially marketed as a display surface, but due to overwhelming attention and encouragement Michael recreated them as a collection.
Food safe, and dishwasher safe, not for use in a microwave.
